Game Notes- West Valley won its fifth State Title of the last ten years and has now supplanted
19-time State Champion Golden West as the State’s dominant program.  The Rustlers have only won two State Titles since West Valley won beat them in 1998 and are mired in their longest title draught since then won their first in 1976.  The Rustlers defeated the Vikings twice this season and were favored to take the title this year, but West Valley claimed a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and never relinquished it, The Vikings toed the line with 17 fouls, but the Rustlers were scarcely able to take advantage of their power play and scored on only six.  The Rustlers pulled with in one in the second quarter and to within two at the start of the fourth quarter, but on both occasions the Vikings stormed back.  In the fourth quarter after the Rustlers’ Hnerique Moniz scored to close the gap to 7-5, the Vikings built the lead to five with consecutive goals Jason Kochel, Patrick Van der Linde and Kochel again to put the game out of reach.

Game Notes- Riverside completed its undefeated 2007 season with wire-to-wire dominance.  The Tigers played only two games within five goals all season and outscored their State Tournament opponents by a combined score of 41-5.  In the title game the Tigers held a four goal lead early in the second quarter, but All American Ali Pierce scored three straight goals to close the gap, but Riverside shut down Pierce after the flurry and held a two-goal lead at the intermission.  The second half belonged to the Tigers; they scored six more goals and completely shutdown the Beavers’ offense.  State Tournament MVP Melissa deJonckheere scored all three of her goals in the second half to take her team to its second title of the last three years.

Game Notes- Defending State Champion Long Beach failed to reach the title game for the first time since 2001, but the Vikings made sure that they left Fresno with some hardware for their trophy case.  The Vikings started slowly, but by midway through the third quarter they held a commanding 7-2 lead.  The Bear Cubs battled to their way into the third place game, but didn’t have an answer for the Vikings at either end of the tank as they fell 12-3.

Game Notes- Santa Rosa team defense left Goalie Aaron Hansen responsible for only one save in the first half as the Bear Cubs shutout the Cougars in the first half.  All American Lance Morrison scored out of set in the first quarter and Todd Hazen added a pair in the second to give Santa Rosa a 3-0 lead at the intermission.  Cuesta finally got on the board when Ethan Hadley scored out of set with six minutes left in the third, but the Bear Cubs continued to build their lead and eventually led 5-1 late in the third quarter.  Santa Rosa held on during the fourth quarter as the Cougars turned up the pressure and their defense stayed strong as they held on to take third place 6-4.  The Bear Cubs also exacted a measure of revenge after the Cougars helped knock them out of the tournament last year.
